Do you WANT to get well?
Sometimes the chains we wear shackled to our hearts become so comfortable, we get use to the pain and forget what its like to be well. Some of us even haven't known freedom. The Question is - do you want to get well?
There was a story in the bible about a man at the pool, he had been at this pool for years waiting by the edge to be the first in the bubbling waters to be healed. Because no one could help him into the water there he sat on the edge of that pool waiting. When Jesus came to the pool and saw this man he asked the man " do you want to get well?" WELL DUH =) that seems like an unusual question ....... OR DOES IT. We get so use to being sick that we get attached to our "sickness". They become apart of our lives and we can't imagine life without them. For this man it meant a life change, a job, a responsbile adult and no more laying by the pool.
When we allow our past to control our future, we are allowing that pain to become an idol. " We can hug our hurts and sorrows and make a shrine out of them, or we can offer them to God as a sacrifice and praise. The choice is ours.
Did the man by the pool get well? Seems that others in the bible KNEW that Jesus could heal and tried all they could to get to him BUT this man. It seems he clung to his illness and blamed it on those around him- a victim of circumstance. " I have NO ONE to help me into the pool whe the water is stirred" ( John 5:7) We don't know if this man just lost the will to be healed, but we do know he NEVER answered Jesus' question. Jesus simply said. Get up! pick up your mat and walk. ( John 5:8) This man was by this pool for YEARS which seems like forever to us, and yet in my own life there are things in my life that have held me back for the same amount of time. Feelings of inferioroty, insecurity and inadequacy because of my past. Then Jesus asked me " Do you want to get well?". Satan wants nothing more then our past to control us, God wants to use our past to propel us. The choice is OURS.
