Oreo Cookies and rice cakes..

Hebrews 4:14-16
Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens,Jesus the son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are- yet was without sin. Let us then approach the throne of Grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in our time of need.

I daily go through temptations and selfish wants without really seeing the big picture. If I eat that one Oreo cookie, how it will turn into 8 cookies without thinking about it. It seems our issues sometimes lies within our will power to say I will turn to an apple or kiwi then to that cookie or chips. Jesus is someone who we can turn too knowing he understands, he endured temptation, but the best part is he came out on the other side without sin.

I love Chips and Salsa, Oreo Double stuffed cookies, and my Ice Cream just like everyone else. If I could; I would eat it every day all day. The Bean house is unique in a way when it comes to high calorie foods. My boys have a hard time gaining weight, so that means high calorie foods and snacks in the house. So when you are  hungry, and you see those cookies, puddings, chexmix bars, chips, and I can go on. My cupboard is called the temptation catcher, you open it, and I promise you it talks to you. Those chips saying just one you can just eat just one, or the cookies with the double stuffed filling looking at me with their sad eyes wanting me to try just one, or two, or eight. I quickly close the pantry coming to the realization I'm not hungry just bored.

OK in Jesus' times I doubt they had Oreo double stuffed cookies, or Carmel covered Ice Cream, but there was still temptations constantly placed in front of him. He endured the daily, intentions walk away from the sinful desires. Knowing those desires will do nothing, but take his eyes of his fathers work. I mean he made a whole meal for 5000 out of fish and bread, he had the ability to indulge in a loaf of bread or two yummy carbs. =). Jesus knew that the temptations of life did nothing, but take him further from what he was placed on this earth to do. Same temptations, same wants, but had the strength to say NO!. He understands our content pulling towards temptation, and only wants us to notice he's there to carry us through to the other side.

We can approach Jesus with the confidence that there is Mercy and Grace when we fall short in our weaknesses. Believe me I fall short on a regular basis, letting my human side take over the spiritual side. So many good things that has been created by man, that is bad for us, but is so tempting to eat. Leaving us feeling like Adam and eve in the garden, the one fruit told not too eat, having all these other wonder fruits.. I believe it was a double stuffed Oreo tree dripping with cream, and the other trees were just rice cake trees. Eve looked at the yummy double stuffed Oreo tree, then looked at the rice cake trees, Satan in his true fashion saying this is sweet and yummy, those have no taste whatsoever. Just one it won't hurt. Before Adam and eve knew it they had double stuffed Oreo cookies all over their face, milking the cows so they could get milk. When all along all Adam and Eve had too do was the same thing we are hit with daily. STOP, LOOK and LISTEN. Stop from reaching, Look at the danger in that snack and Listen to what God has too say about what your putting into the temple he has built in you.

Our Strength and willpower is weak, but is strong when we turn toward Jesus when we are hit with the temptations and addictions of life. In Proverbs 24:10 it says If you falter in times of trouble, how small is your strength.  Our strength gets weak when our spiritual life is out of balance, keep that spiritual life in balance daily, and you will begin to see the strength in all areas of your life comes into balance. It's like a balance beam when we are spiritually fit we can hit flips, turns, and dips staying in full balance, and having a perfect dismount at the end of the day.
